Shirley Weiss was raised in the country and has spent most of her life on the farm in northern Alberta. Her paintings are realistic and reflect the happenings in everyday life, scenery, western and wildlife. Although she started drawing and painting as a child, she did not start painting professionally until 2010.
Weiss is an Associate Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and also a member of the Peace River Chapter, and has had the majority of her paintings juried into their shows in Vancouver. She is also an Associate member of Artists for Conservation, member of National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society, and the Grande Prairie Guild of Artists.
She is honoured to be a two-time winner of the Grande Prairie Beauty of the Peace competition, first place winner of the first Grande Prairie Stompede Poster competition, third year participant in the C. M. Russell Auction, Great Falls, and third year participant in the Pure West Art & Artifact Auction, Calgary.
Weiss has won many awards and has paintings in Corporate and private collections throughout Canada and the United States.
